A video on my life: Unfortunate Incidents are Purposeful Accidents
This is an assignment project that require us to fully create our own design and assets to animate a video that defines ourselves. In this video, I have extracted a piece of my story to create a poetic storyline. I used visual metaphors like black cat as superstitions believe that cats of that colour are undesireable and unlucky.
Script:
Am I cursed with all these abnormal challenges?
Unhappy as a child filled with fear,
Unlucky with all sorts of circumstances,
With these insomnia nightmares,
I just wanted to run away.
As I aged, I learnt to accept.
It’s not easy being in this smiling crowd,
Living without what you expected.
Whether it’s abnormal or not,
These incidents have shaped my confidence,
I can still create this beautiful mindset of life,
To find little joy when there’s none.
Learning from least expected situation,
I now believe that unfortunate incidents are purposeful accidents.
Idea process:
Since I was young, I always thought my life was cursed. I always face the worse challenges in life even in the most basic thing. I did not experience an ideally happy childhood as others due to fear. Misfortune occurred so much I even faced constant nightmares for 2 years (teased by faceless beings, chased, murdered, etc.) and had difficulty sleeping since the age of 11. I would constantly encounter undesirable situations that I stopped myself from trying out things. I hated how I lived feeling that something will occur to me every day. Slowly, I learnt to accept certain misfortune and laugh it off. Trying to blend normally in a crowd of smiling people wasn’t easy but I never gave up. I learnt that even if my life isn’t normal or up to expectation, I can still enjoy it. My determination and mindset can be more beautiful than life can seem. I can create values in myself and bring joy to others, which in returns makes me happy too. As I get older, I learnt that my unfortunate incidents can be a purposeful accident in life. I learnt to appreciate a lot of tiny moments and memories. Accept things the way it is and to live life to the fullest, that is what made me who I am today. That life doesn’t need to be perfect to enjoy it.
